Why isn't slavery seen this way?
Why isn't slavery seen this way?
Why isn’t slavery as practised in the antebellum southern American states seen for what it was - as a crime by rich whites against poor whites? If the rich wanted work done they should have hired white men to do it and payed them a reasonable rate. Instead they were selfishly hoarding natural resources for themselves and cutting other members of their society out of the loop, thereby driving a wedge between their economic interests and those of society. Which is to say, slave owners were traitors. Regarding the black slaves as victims is stupid. Obviously most of the black slaves were vastly better off as slaves. Long experience has established that blacks are an inferior subspecies that simply can't productively function in modern society without whitey's boot up their asses in one way or another, and black chattel slaves had vastly more rights than the average modern wage slave. The mainstream view of the situation is quite bizarre.

Whites were slaves along with blacks in the 16th century and the white slaves were treated just as badly as the black slaves during that time.
White and black slaves worked together during this time.
The rich white elites then created the concept of "skin color" and this separated the white and black slaves.

Sometimes the question answers itself. Who writes/funds the history textbooks?Cornfed wrote:Why isn’t slavery as practised in the antebellum southern American states seen for what it was - as a crime by rich whites against poor whites? The rich whites, then and now, spent most of their time with their boots up the asses of ... poor whites.
Same as rich vs poor in any country on earth.
Many poor people buy into the idea of "white/black/Catholic/etc. like us", but haven't been (and are never going to be) paid for their loyalty.
As long as poor people sub-divide themselves into ethnic groups to fight over the crumbs, instead of uniting to earn a full seat at the table, they're going to stay where they are. "Willie Lynch" tactics work on ALL the slaves, not just the dark ones.

Slavery in America was a social crime and human rights abuse against African Americans, an economic crime against poor white Americans. The truth of the matter is America is a country founded on exploitation, slavery, imperialism, colonialism, and war.
America: Human Rights Abuses, War Crimes, Crimes of Aggression, and Crimes Against the Peace
America committed genocide the Native Americans
America conquered Territory from Spain
America attempted to Invade and Conquer Canada. They burned the Canadian Capital and the British burned Washington DC. (War of 1812)
America was reliant and heavily involved in the Slave Trade which captured Africans, taking them from their homes and families bringing them to America where they suffered inhumane treatment
America conquered Hawaii, deposing Queen Liliuokalani (she wanted a Hawaii for Native Hawaiians. She wanted a Hawaii for her people. America wanted Hawaii for plantations and removed her from power).
America sent a ship to Cuba (which has a "gas explosion") then declared War on Spain to conquer Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.
America had a long history of using it's power unjustly to meddle in South American affairs
America has continuously exploited poor white Americans. Many were subject to indentured service similar to Africans enduring slave-like treatment and many worked in dangerous mines.
In World War II, America rounded up Japanese Americans putting them into internment camps. They lost their homes and were treated inhumanely. Another example of American racism and American social crimes.
Most of what schools teach is designed to make America look good, whitewash history, and pretend the long list of crimes didn't happen or were less horrible than they were. America has no one left to truly exploit in the world and it's power is waning. There is no question why America and the American elite are now exploiting every American and America is descending into poverty and is an empire in decline. The health of a nation is determined by the lifestyle of it's poorest people and the size of it's middle class. America is a dying country in those regards. In present day America, the majority of the people are serfs, indentured slaves, underemployed, unemployed, or homeless. The poor and the upper-class are the two largest growing economic segments of the American population.

I can answer that question Cornfed.
Basically,
The rich whites that owned slaves did share their slaves resources (labor) in more indirect ways. For example black slaves would separate out cotton seeds or perform other things sometimes for a very small fee or for free for other whites in the area needing certain things done. This was not done too much but enough to find it's way on the reason list for Northern republicans to justify blaming poor whites for supporting and participating in markets that benefited from slavery, regardless of whether or not they owned any.
Also very few poor whites ever went against the prestige of the Southern Elite. You can still see remnants of this mindset/ideology in today's America with the poor white conservatives mindset of supporting the goals and polices of rich republicans. They tend to buy into the Horatio Alger Myth or whatever you want to call it.
There is a more nuances to this, I'm just keeping it short.
