Gillette razor losing billions for shaming masculine men...

Post by redfeather »

I know I stopped buying anything Gillette related after this BS ad campaign.
Gillette decided to jump on the SJW campaign and help brain dead women shame men for being masculine.
Gillette decided to help women emasculate men.
Now that is a helluva way to drum up more business for your company...not.

Back in the 1990's, BIC would leave so many nicks, they should have called it 'Nick.' You couldn't trust generic razors, but Gillette had a good product. Now, in my experience, generic razors are as good as Gillette and often even have that sensitive skin strip. There are shave clubs and a lot of men wearing beards, and who wants to listen to their preachy ads?

A lot of products in the store are purchased by women. Marketers know this and ads for soap, detergents, etc. are purchased by women. I let my wife buy most of the food and the bleach, but I do pick up a razor when I need one, and my guess is this is one item that men buy themselves. It would be interesting to see the stats on this. This could be one reason their sales went down. They can get away with 'woke' ads for other products, but if men actually buy the products themselves, this sort of campaign just might hurt their sales.

BTW, I know P&G is huge, but how can their razor division lose that many billion dollars? It's amazing how much money a company can make just from its razor sales. P&G sells a lot of Gillette razors overseas. I wonder what percentage of the sales losses were in countries that did not show the commercial.

Good point. Being a cheapskate myself, I always use generics for most products, including razors. Quite possible most men offended by the ad likewise were already using generics. Gillette also sells to women for their use (legs, underarms). Maybe they thought losing some men might be compensated for by gaining some women users.

If I were still selling to the public, I would try to avoid politics (and religion and anything else controversial). But then I was always bad at marketing back when I was in business, so what do I know? Well, actually, I know the marketing slogan "but only bad publicity is no publicity". So maybe they want to get men angry, then they'll run a super masculine ad full of hairy Neanderthal guys fighting over a beautiful young woman or whatever as a form of apology, and that will soothe some of the angry customers, meanwhile they get all this publicity (like this forum thread, probably first time P&G got their own thread on HappierAbroad including brand name in the thread title) and maybe guys who never even considered Gillette will be attracted by the uproar, forget which side is which and take a closer look at Gillette in the store next time. Similar to how the infamous New Coke "fiasco" wasn't a fiasco for Coca Cola in the end.

This shows us that at least a few men are awake and disapprove of this nonsense going on in society.

There are lots of false accusations in this country, and so far I have lived through two of them and come out unscathed.

I also remember some stats that say that up to 40% of female against male accusations are false.

Is there anyway we could reinvigorate the boycott to make them lose more billions? A lot of men are still buying their razors.
